CallVocab is a browser extension that helps you learn English from the live captions of your video calls. This document states exactly what data the extension touches, what leaves your computer, and what does not.

1. What CallVocab stores on your computer

All of it lives in chrome.storage.local, which is private to your browser profile and this extension. It is never synced or uploaded to external servers.

You can delete all of it at any time from the extension popup → Export tab → Clear all local data. Removing the extension also permanently deletes all local data.

CallVocab never records audio or video. It only reads the caption text that the call platform itself has already rendered on the page.

2. What leaves your computer

Three features make direct network requests. In every case, only a single word or a single requested caption line is sent. Your vocabulary list, notes, and meeting transcripts are never transmitted anywhere.

2.1 Word lookups — when you click a word

The single word (for example welcome) is sent to Free Dictionary API (api.dictionaryapi.dev) to fetch its English definition. The sentence it came from is not sent.

2.2 Word translation — the word alone

CallVocab ships with a built-in offline dictionary of ~1,500 common English words translated into all 16 interface languages. When the word is in the offline dictionary, nothing is sent anywhere.

2.3 Line translation — only when you tap 🌐

This is completely off unless you manually tap the 🌐 button on a specific caption line. When tapped, only the text of that one caption line is sent to Google Translate or MyMemory for translation.

2.4 No telemetry or third-party trackers

No crash reporting, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and no third-party analytics SDKs exist in CallVocab.

3. What CallVocab does NOT do

• Does not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
• Does not transfer your data for any unrelated purpose.
• Does not use your data or sentences to train AI models.
• Does not create user profiles or track you across sites.
• Does not read pages outside of Google Meet and Microsoft Teams caption areas.

4. Where CallVocab runs

The extension only loads on:
